I purchased an older Shopsmith 10E with most of the attachments several years ago but am just getting set up to use it and thought I would like to turn some winestoppers. I purchased a winestopper set which includes a tapered mandrel and drill bit. The drill bit worked fine by inserting it into the chuck which I attached to the 5/8" spindle. However, the mandrel is too large to fit into the chuck but it appears it could replace the spindle if it can be removed.
Can the spindle be removed and what steps are required to do this?

Hi,
Thus far I know of no solution to using a MT2 on a shopsmith headstock. I have a couple of methods under test, maybe I'll share them later in the year if they work out well enough.
Until then here is another idea that might help in your quest.
