Just received an email from SS about a riving knife for dadoes and rabbets. Of course, they always show the 520 and MK7 when they advertise these things, so it left me wondering if this knife could be adapted to the 500.

It's beyond me how to make this work. Maybe, a screw in the table cross bar. If you know, I would love to know. Thanks.

The riving knife is held by a clamp that is screwed tight by a knob on the lower saw guard.
I'm looking for a photo to show how it is mounted.
This is not a good look at the clamp that holds the riving knife but it is the best I have. It is shown in the lower right hand corner of the image. The know (black) just barely shows The clamp is closed and there is no riving knife.

Well, it is not designed to fit on the 500 model, but all those later, apparently because of the clamp on the back of the saw guard. So, if I can make one and clamp it to the table crossbar, then make it fit precisely behind the blade. The trick is to keep it just behind the blade even if I have to adjust the quill just a bit. May make a clamp that will adjust in my saw guard. Really like the idea, just need to adapt it to the older machines. Thanks for the help George and Dusty.

Dusty:
If you are running a MS Windows operating system, you in all probability do have software that will add notations to windows. It' called Microsoft Paint and comes with it (whether you want it or not). If you want to edit photos, I can recommend Irfan View (free download from internet."

FWIW Irfanview uses paint 'dialog'.

mspaint.exe (windows paint) is available on essentially every windows install by default.
If you want something a little more powerful, a great free option is Paint.Net. You can get it at
