I am trying to troubleshoot a possible bearing that may be going bad in my Mark V. Can I remove the Quill and run the motor to isolate the quill bearings?

You can do that. you could also remove the belt from the motor to the idler shaft and see what you hear.

I prefer to 'feel' the bearings rather than listen to them.

Does require removal!

Yes, you can run the machine with the quill removed. With the quill removed just be careful that you do not let loose of the quill handle without locking it. If you do you will likely be reinstalling the quill spring. That can be a task to avoid.
