Price increases?

Price increases?
Just got the email saying that prices will increase up to 35% after 4/30.
That's quite a jump.

Got the same email.
I hope that the high end (35%) isn't on too many things. A lot of things are already too high for me living on a fixed income so there would be a lot more things I wouldn't buy or even think about for that much more money.
I'm also wishing that some items will not go up at all... have to wait and see.

A 35% increase in the cost of a PowerPro would definitely make that decision an easy one for me. I will never have a PowerPro unless someone gives me one.
But let us keep our cool. The announcement was not quite as bad as that. I copied part of the announcement here.
Quote: "Fortunately, Shopsmith has not had to implement an across-the-board price increase since 2009. However, significant rises in our costs for metal, fuel and freight have made it impossible for us to continue holding the line on prices.
Therefore, effective April 30th, 2012, increases of up to 35% will take effect for many of our products".

I, like every one else, have witnessed an ever increasing rise in prices. However, I don't believe that anything I buy now has increased 35% over what I would have paid in 2009.
If I saw all of those prices graphed out over time, I might be shocked but I don't think so.
What I am saying is that a 35% across the board increase would be a real shocker.
I wonder if we should expect the online catalog to be revised to reflect these increases or will we first find out when we try to order something.
I have about $800 worth of items (saw blades, band saw blades, sand paper, parts for a refurb and paint) that I probably should order now but I cannot. If the price goes up 35%, I'll be out shopping for alternate sources.

I don't know if anyone happened to read this posting I did after my visit to a shopsmith demo at Lowes.

So how would you feel about a 10% increase on the powerpro?
Sure does make you think.
Right now I have a list of small items but I am going to wait out the increase as the postage is a killer on small orders, I'm guess worse the the price increase will be.

35% on anything is ridiculous. In the HVAC industry, the big deal is the raw material costs, steel-copper-aluminum. See it everyday. All the factories have taken price increases accross the board but they range from 2-8%. Some products are adjusted downwards as needed with price studies and volume specific sales ect. For any manufacturer to advertise a 35% increase so "buy now", I can only imagine bigger ticket items would be a very modest increase and hopefully they are just trying to drive sales by the "scare" of the 35% number being advertised. With any luck, just aprons are going up 35%. But there is no way to justify a huge increase on most products...they aren't super cheap already.

Someone I believe on this forum a few years back advised that one should buy the tools you want when you're still working; you may not have the means when you retire. I recognized that as good advice and have subsequently bought a couple things that I frankly don't have the time to use to their full potential right now. For major purchases I try to buy used when I can, but I did buy an OPR new. Given the price increases, I am glad that I did. I'm sure they won't be the last before I retire (if I ever do!).
