Habu Box

This was ordered by a couple in Japan.
The Habu is a venomous snake indigenous to Okinawa.
Walnut and maple. 2 coats of Watco, 3 coats of rattle can Helmsman poly.
Drawers are flocked inside.

Bob, on a trip to Okinawa last Dec. I had the opportunity to see several Habu. They are BIG snakes!!
They milk them and put them in Sake. I saw one coiled in a 6 liter jug and it took up most of the space. I tasted the Sake. It must be an acquired taste.

The mongoose was imported into Okinawa in the hopes it would kill off the Habu snakes there, but it turned out that the mongoose would rather eat sweet patatoes than fight snakes. At least that's what I was told by locals while there in the service.

Regarding saki, there were two types on Okinawa. The traditional type made from rice and another that was made from sweet potatoes. The latter was some awful stuff. If you ever road on a local bus and sat near someone who drank the sweet potato saki, you'd know it immediately. It was that foul. I don't recall the Habu variety.

Hi Art,
We toured the factory where they made the Habu Sake at "Okinawa World". They actually called it "Okinawan Liqueur". But, when it's offered, it's referred to as Saki. I'll stick with Scotch, thanks.
It's not surprising that the mongoose would choose sweet potatoes over facing off with a Habu.

The Okinawans make a lot of food stuffs, including ice cream, with that purple potato. The ice cream is quite good, too.
