Old jig saw vs. new scroll saw - feedback please

I enjoy using the old style jig saw, but I do find that i break blades fairly often. I have never used a modern scroll saw, much less the Shopsmith model scroll saw, which I understand to be a high quality scroll saw, so I do not know weather this is a weakness in my technique, or in the saw itself. I am interested in hearing feedback from users who are familiar with both the old style jig saw and the modern shopsmith scrollsaw as to the quality of performance and dependability between the two, as well as the maintenance requirements of the modern scroll saw.
