Bird feeding tip

Post by robinson46176 »

I don't know if I mentioned this here or not.
Some time ago we had bought a suet feeder that is a double walled cage because the starlings were swarming to it in droves and wiping one out in literally minutes. They would also clean out a bird feeder pretty quick. This winter I was watching them and it hit me that I had an old smallish wire dog crate (about 3' x 18" x 18") stored back. We keep our main bird feeder sitting on a table that has an expanded metal top. I got the dog crate out and sat it on the table, opened the door and sat the feeder inside. It is easy to fill through the big door and the effect has been remarkable. Even the cardinals fit through it but the starlings do not. Not only does it keep the feed from them they have quit coming around at all.
