Well, at least 'what is doing at my shop in BLue Springs'. I have new casters sitting in the cabinet waiting, the lift assist just arrived via FedEx (it will wait also) and the PowerPro upgrade is supposed to arrive sometime in early June.
For the last couple of days, I have been practicing my 'lathe' proficiency. Two weeks ago, my son and I took a course in platter turning at our local Woodcraft store. Great course and great instructor. We were the only two students and we got a lot of attention. And we found out just how poor we are at this stuff. Boy, the teacher could use his bowl gouge and clean up and flatten the bottom of the platter in one pass. I try it and I get gouges, chatter and every other mark of imperfection. Bummer. My son does much better but even he is muttering that we both need to retake the basic classes again.
So last couple of days, I put an old baseball bat (cut down) into the SS and I have been practicing my center work with gouges, skews and scrapers. I am absolutely terrible with the gouge. The skew (after watching a nice YouTube segment by John Lucas) - works out nicely. The scraper does a nice job also. Now the bat is old and very dry and very hard. But still.... it is pretty obvious I have a ways to go.
Hope you are all having a nice Memorial Day.
