Fawn
Glenn: We had a similar experience two years ago. Consider yourself blessed that you could witness this beautiful piece of Gods handiwork. We still feel fortunate for the opportunity as we were able to kneel beside it and touch it without it so much as moving. A few moments later, we found it's mother standing at the edge of a pine thicket across the road so even if you didn't see her, I'm sure yours was close by too. New life is a wonderful thing.

Cutest things ever. Had a few thru the years and one a few feet from the house... amazing nearly wet and wobbly legged. Mother doe appears to abandon them but is actually away to keep her scent only to a predator, distracting and not to the fawn.
This happened a few years ago while walking the dog: While on a foot path and crossing a wooden bridge, spotted a young doe. Our black lab froze just the same as the deer but after a moment we continued to the end of the bridge. So then this friendly bambi decides to check us out! Hesitant but both the dog and deer stared each other and slowly approached almost nose to nose. My wife and I couldn't believe it, probably just like our dog who eventually gave a commanding bark and the deer fled. Its really odd because we've seen ravaged deer remains, skeletons from coyote attacks in the same area.

A couple of weeks before we left the back woods of Virginia we found a fawn curled up on the shoulder of the road less than a 100 yards from our property. Our little wonder dog wanted to adopt it as a playmate. Jim
