It's the length of the arbor that is different. Because the table size of the 505,510 and 520 are wider, arbors for these models are slightly longer. You can swap these among the models but you have to advance the quill or move the table slightly to compensate. I'm not sure how the blade guards will line up however if you swap arbors.

The Mark 5, Mark VII and Mark V(500) are the same. 505...520 are longer. Also the design has changed from the older versions.(different nut, shape)

Since the table is adjustable they both fit on the same shaft couldn't you use them interchangeably?
Is the arbor diameter different?

The 500 arbor will not work with the Mark 7 and Model 510/520 lower saw guards....too short.....period. You can use the 500 arbors on the newer machines with out the guards.

Good to know, have been wanting to purchase some extra saw arbors for my Mark V, just assumed if it was 5/8" they would all work no matter the machine, As of now, I only have one blade (the original combo blade that came with the SS).

Now I have noticed that there are two sizes of arbors the 5/8" and the 1 1/4". Never new that there were two sizes, as I have never bought any extra blades for my craftsman table saw. Is there a real need to have have both arbor sizes, or do most brands/types offer blades that have center holes of both sizes? I visit to the local Lowe's and Home Depot looks like 5/8" is the standard there. What has your experience been?

The 1 1/4 arbor hole is sorta unique to SS for the 9" and 10" blades. That arbor size is more prevalent with larger sized blades.

IMHO the larger arbor size is an advantage(more grip area and blades tend to wobble less).

That is not to say 5/8" blades are 'inadequate'.

Yes most(if not all) blades at you know where will be 5/8".

Shopsmith blades are (almost all) 1 1/4".

Thanks for the info, like I mentioned the only blade I have so far is a SS combo blade. Good to know that the 1/14" is SS specific as I want to purchase so additional blades in the near future. So far however the SS blade is adequate for my needs. Looks like it would be good to have a couple of each on hand. The only accessory that did not come with my SS when I bought it was the arbor wrench, but I am guessing a good crescent wrench would work adequately.
