I have had my Dust Deputy for a couple of years now and finally got around to building a cart for it. I was in Lowe's the other day and noticed that Shop Vac has a unit called Bucket Max (about $30) that snaps on a 5 gal. bucket. It hit me that this would work perfectly with with my Dust Deputy. The cart is made entirely of left over 3/4" ply from a previous project. The combination works perfectly so I guess it was worth the wait for the cart.

Great idea and well executed George. My dust deputy has been staring down from a high shelf for over two years. Your Idea suggests it's time to get with the program. Thanks again for sharing another use for plywood I have on hand. Jim

Great project George! I think I will now finally do something with my Dust Deputy that's been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years. Thanks for posting this one.

I noticed in the hose storage picture what appears to be two screws protruding inside the storage area from the accessory storage side. Looks like they could easily give you a nasty cut if you aren't careful. I suggest you cut off the protruding pointed ends of the screws and then file them level with the plywood.

Please take this as a helpful suggestion rather than a criticism which it is NOT! I make many dumb decisions I have to fix in my projects so I'm not one to criticize others.

Screw a couple of scrap/cutoff pieces onto them pointy things!;)

Nice Cart George, I really like the hose and accessory storage ideas.

Question for those who use the dust deputy?? I know this would save on loading the canister for the vac. What about the filter clogging up?

My latest project has filled my 16 Gallon shop vac twice! and that did not include the several piles of shavings from jointer operations. Those where easier to sweep up and put in the yard waste than vacuum. Anyways, cleaning that filter is just not a pleasant task.

While I would have to empty a Dust Deputy more frequently, if it cuts down on having to clean the filter, that would be a great improvement, Not to mention that a 5 gal bucket is much lighter and easier to maneuver than a 16 Gallon shop vac canister.

Have we seen pictures and info on the storage shelves that look to have sliding trays/drawers that is sitting in the back left corner of the first picture?

Everybody else looks at the foreground of a picture. I am always scanning for neat stuff in the background.

Farmer, that is a my grinding wheel/lathe tool sharpening station. I found it at a "Big Lots" store on sale for about $15 bucks. I liked the sliding trays better than the drawers. It's a cheapie but it works great.

Terry, the DD will most definitely cut down on the filter cleaning. Everything except the very finest particles is caught in the DD before it gets to the filter. I have filled the DD to about 1/4 full and there is virtually nothing in the Shop Vac so far and the filter looks like new.

last year or maybe the year before (I loose track of time) a mouse set up housekeeping in my shop-vac. She made a very nice home out of the filter. The homestead included a separate food storage area (filled with rodent bait) and a separate latrine area which the little critters faithfully used. The canister rusted thru the bottom under the latrine area. After uttering the applicable epithets, I thru the vac in the pile of things that need to be hauled to the dump someday or when the mood strikes whichever happens first.


Fast forward to last week. There was a plastic bucket laying on the road and every time I drove by it I thought to myself "I should pick it up". Then came the curiousgeorge post that inspired the shop-vac resurrection.
