Headstock casting compatability?

Just starting to get into my recently purchased '82 MK V. I knew the speed control needed a lot of work and found on disassembly that two of the three mounting ears on the casting were broke. I was considering an el cheapo repair by making a backup plate and drilling and tapping new holes to hold the speed control. In the meantime I saw a headstock casting on Ebay that is advertised as being from an early Greenie. From what I can see it looks just like my '82. Has the access hole on the opposite side, looks like the larger cutout for the speed control, and appears to be in good shape even with the idler shaft clamp looking intact. Can anyone confirm that this is the same design casting and will fit my componants?

They are compatible.

There are only three versions. "A", "B", and "C". A is a very early sandcast version that is heavier than the die cast B. C replaced the small round switch with the larger square one.

ALL have the same bore sizes and locations. The A does not have the access hole on the back side. The A is slightly different just below the switch(speed control interlock).

I have found a few headstocks with one or two speed control casing ears broken or the threads stripped. Someone had put a nut or a washer and nut on the inside of each broken/stripped casing ear and used JB Weld(?) to hold the nut and/or washer to the casing. I was able to remove and install the speed control assembly without any problems occurring.

If I was to do this repair, I would use a clamp to firmly press the washer and nut againest the casing for at least 24 hours. I have had great success with JB Weld when the items are tightly pressed together and there is no vibration between the parts been repaired. Even repaired a few rubber garage can lids with JB Weld that raccoons broke.

Where are you located?
I'm in California, but am travelling right now. I have a goldie/brownie casting that you can have for the cost of shipping. it's a "B" casting, so totally compatible with your unit.
I'll be back there on or around the 10th

Thanks everyone for the info.Also thanks to wiredone for the offer but I did already win the bid on Ebay for practically nothing anyhow so I'm still basically paying shipping.I don't know why it won't save in my profile but I am in central CT.As far as parts go, it seems that most of what I find are in CA for some reason.Just one of those unexplainable coincidences I guess,or is it some variation of Murphy's law?
