A bad motor capacitor in a 2002 Emerson 1 1/8 HP motor. First bad capacitor in over 200 motors I have repaired/rebuilt. There is no external signs that anything happen in the capacitor other than that it was an open when using the ohm meter. Replacing the capacitor fixed the motor humming problem for me.
The end cap has a bushing, not a ball bearing in it.
