Ridgid Jointer/Planer Upgrade to Spiral Cutter
This is not actually a tool revue but more of a "How To". I have had my Ridgid JP06101 planer/jointer for some time now and it is an awesome tool. It was set up perfectly right out of the box. Recently I decided to try the Spiral Cutter and the attached is directed to anyone who may want to do the same. I didn't think to take photos while doing the upgrade so I hope the PDF will be easy to understand as the procedure is not really that complicated.

I've seen this new type of planer knife system & wondered if the Shopsmith could be modified with one of these helical cutting systems which is like getting 1 set of planer knives with 3 spares for each cutter. Would be nice, but probably very expensive. ka-ching!

Unless you have some production runs in thought, probably will 'ka-ching' your wallet. Also, if you salvage lumber and get the occasional hidden or broken nail to knick the knives, well then thats a good reason to get a Shelix type cutter. Check outByrdfor retrofits. I don't think anyone offers a small 4" head for the SS jointer.backhertz wrote:I've seen this new type of planer knife system & wondered if the Shopsmith could be modified with one of these helical cutting systems which is like getting 1 set of planer knives with 3 spares for each cutter.
