Well; The urethane tires arrived and I started removing the black rubber tires from the band saw wheels. The black tires are badly worn and crowned so bad a narrow blade rides about 1/2" in front of the backed bearing. I will be aligning the upper wheel next.

Tried Lacquer thinner but started to get woosy so I clamped the wheel in my woodworkers vise and had at with a utility knife. First one is done with only a few minor nicks and no blood shed.

On the positive side, I learned several new curse words in languages I didn't know I knew.

Unfortunate circumstances can sometimes bring out the best in you ...

The easiest way to get the black rubber tires off is to put on a blade and tension it, then connect the headstock with the speed set pretty fast. Turn it on, and before you can say "oh, crap!" the black rubber tires will be off and in several pieces.

Installing and removing of the rubber tires were not that hard anymore .

Oh, you use this method too?

I used mineral spirits and a wire wheel in a hand drill to get off the residue.

I put solvent on the edge of the rubber tire and let it settle for a while. This really takes time.
A test of patience for me.
