I've set up my late father's Mark V 500 as my main tool in my half of the garage. Sure is nice to be able to park a car in here as well - I love the small footprint of the Shopsmith!

While unpacking all the equipment, I've run across the "rubber bonded abrasive wheel." Although it's briefly mentioned in the Woodworking for Everyone book, I haven't seen anyone mention it when talking about sharpening tools, and it doesn't look like Shopsmith even carries it anymore. Is it any good? How would one want to use it? Thanks!

Well, I suppose it would work in there! It's a relatively small wheel, about 5 inches in diameter (at least right now), and just soft enough to be able to poke a thumbnail into.

I can not find the diameter of the stones that they use with that grinder guard; however, there are three, and they look about 5" in diameter on pg 30, in the 2006 Mark V Accessory Catalog. I do not know what you would use your "stone" for though.

It says it's just another way to hone tools! I just wonder how good it is!

After reading that Tip, I think that it would probably fit in the grinding guard, but you probably would have to buy an arbor for it too, unless you have one for it already.
