Calif now will assess lumber 1%

Is this just my idiot state or do other states have something like this?

"Sacramento, CA -- A new law requires a one percent (1%) assessment on purchases of lumber products and engineered wood products for use in California beginning January 1, 2013."

California legislators take heed.

Tax Tung oil because the Tung tree is endangered.....in China?

Tax Linseed oil because it takes so much water to grow flax?

Tax all tools without "flesh sensing" technology? Glad I've already bought my hammers.

Tax all saw blades and router bits made in America because of the loss of tax revenue from dock fees?

Just a few suggestions. I'm sure you guys in Sacramento can find many other ways to tax infinitum ad naseum.

Sad part is there are a lot of 'ideots' around the country that believe that as CA goes, the rest of the country should follow.

Really sad part is that 'they' are usually in a position(elected) to do so!:eek:

I agree it always seems to work that way.

And, you are right Dusty. We elected them. We the masses, not we the individuals. I'm still frustrated by the presidential elections but not surprised. Rural America just doesn't seem to have a voting chance when pitted against the masses in the cities and suburbs.

Let me understand this:

"The new law (AB 1492, Ch. 289, Stat. 2012) collects the money to promote and encourage sustainable forest practices and mandates that BOE collect the assessment from retailers for various state agencies including the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). BOE estimates that the lumber products assessment will generate $35 million in FY 2013-14 for the Timber Regulation and Forest Restoration Fund."

Tax a product to promote it?? What economic model are these clowns following??

Everyday I think more and more about getting out! The "Great Weather Taxes" are getting to be too high. I'm almost embarrassed to call myself a California native. I just hope this train goes into the ditch sooner rather than later so we can get on with the business of fixing it. With the "Democratic Super Majority" in place, I think it's gonna happen. As soon as the takers find out there's nothing left to take, they'll move on, and then those of left who care can start rebuilding.

Terry, I'm not a Ca native, but my baby brother is, so is his wife, and 2 of his kids. (And, his ER.)

When I got there, we had a Republican Governor. (Who became President.)
After that, was Rev. (Jerry Brown) Moonbeam, and his girlfriend, Linda Rondstadt.
