Mk V power loss disconnect unit dead

Hi,
I have a Shopsmith MkV 510. Nothing happens when I switch on. I have found the fault is the power loss disconnect unit. The switch and motor are fine if I bypass this unit. The UK replacement price is HUGE and way out of proportion to what is in it. Does anyone know if I can subsititute it with a no volt release starter found on most UK woodworking machines ? ( green button start/red button stop and won't restart on its own if the power fails and then returns ) It would be a fraction of the cost I have been quoted and probably does the same job as the faulty unit.

I would like to see the faulty unit.
Curious where it is attached to the SS.

I don't see any need or use for that device. I'd junk it and keep sawing.
The less electronics you have on your Shopsmith, the longer it will run troublefree.

Thanks for the advice, do I gather this is not usually fitted. If so does the wiring run from the switch directly to the motor/capacitor?

Typically, yes.
Is it possible it was added by a po rather than ss?
Connect the wires that went to the two right hand end terminals.
Tape off the wire that went to the left end terminal.
A pix would be helpful.

Is the purpose of this device to prevent power from being reapplied automatically after a primary power loss.
If that is its purpose, it is not "needed" UNLESS the Mark V has been somehow rewired to meet local (UK) code requirements.
