Not much to show here. The poly-v pulley is centered between the retaining ring grooves and tight(very) to the shaft at its original location. The retaining rings are installed in the grooves, and the bearings are pulled onto the shaft up to the rings.

Kit487 looks like sealed bearing. The picture you showed looks like shield.

U R correct. I grabbed that link with out looking closely.

I now think sealed bearings are preferred to minimize dust infiltration.

I used what I already had.

Regardless vxb was the 'source'.

Is there any consensus of using sealed or shield bearings in this community?

I saw you use two sealed bearings in the motor assembly. Is the sealed better than shield for Shopsmith application?

Dust is an enemy of bearings. It is more crucial in the motor which is pumping air past them. All the original bearings are shielded.

So tis a matter of 'preference'.

My current 'preference' is sealed!
