Bottle stopper question

Post by stickthrower »

I have too many pans in the fire, but wanted to get some information on this one.

Where do you all get your stoppers from? I have looked several places, and seeing some different prices, so wanted to see who you all thought had the best price/choice.

I looked at Woodcraft over the weekend, but they only had cork and plastic in store. I know I have looked at Pen state and Rockler, and they both have stainless.

Thanks

I haven’t turned any yet (still trying to find the "safe" place I stored my lathe chisels:confused:).
I did enjoy this video by Capneddie #139 Bottle Stopper Magic
and he has a link to a source that he likes.

I have been watching alot of Capn Eddies videos. I did watch this one, and I can get those from Rockler for just shy of $10. I am thinking that is a pretty good deal. Just wanted to see if there were other ones out there people would suggest.

Actually figured out my glue block as well from watching one of his. And I picked up a soda gun to clean rusty tools from harborfreight after watching one of his videos too. :)

If you're looking at those Niles stoppers, she sells them for $6.05 each. Less if you buy 10 or more.

One thing to note about the various stoppers being sold is that the stud thread size varies. The Niles have a 3/8" thread, while some others have a 1/4" thread.

Looks like it's same stopper, she manufactures them and Rockler buys from her.

Rockler - $8.49, SSNiles - $6.05 with quantity discounts on 10 or more.

So if you're getting three or more you can save a few bucks buying direct even with the shipping;)

Silicon Bottle Stopper Kits

Post by bigmoe »

I have used Silicon Bottle Stopper Kits from Pennstate Industries. Item Number BS5. You get 10 kits for $8.95. Someone posted a few years ago about using these kits. He tells how to make a device to hold them while turning them.
