Shopsmith Crafters station reverse switch???

The reverse switch does not work on a crafters station. Bought a new switch from shopsmith, no luck. I sold the unit to a guy in fla. which is a long way from Missouri. Want to help the guy get the reverse going. I did not even know about the reverse on these units until he told me that is what makes them unique and different from the power station. Any suggestions I'm wondering if someone rewired the unit to bypass the reverse. But don't know. thanks for any help in advance. He says the motor is okay.
