A Home and Garden Show Conversation
My wife and I went to the local Home and Garden Show this past weekend. Here is a part of a conversation between a vendor and me.
Vendor: What's that on your beltbuckle, a Shopsmith?
Me: Yes.
V: I saw those when I was a boy. Are they still around?
M: Yup, I bought mine back in 2004.
V: Really? I didn't think they were around anymore?
M: They're still in business. By the way, where is your company based?
V: Dayton, Ohio.
It was at that point I walked away.

Some of us live our lives under the clouds, while some others enjoy the tornado of their world. Me I like a nice sunny day every now and then.
I keep finding little windows on this forum, that I don't really know what they do. So sometimes I experiment. Probably shouldn't do that, I know in my shop it can get me into trouble.

If it is, I would certainly have had to let that guy know that Shopsmith is a competing company operating out of his home town.
Well, maybe he is not a competitor but still....being obnoxious I would have been compelled to say something.

Unfortunately, yes it was. But it got me to thinking: what if he was just an agent taking orders and doesn't spend that much time in Dayton? I just thought the conversation was kind of bizarre.dusty wrote:Is this a "for real" conversation?

Home & Garden show.
Vendor was touting what?.
Doubt he was 'vending' wood working stuff.
I would not 'expect' that combination to even know what a Shopsmith is/was.

We visited a home show a few weeks ago and as a result had our shower stall removed and replaced with a fancy brand spankin new one. When the crew arrived to begin the process they wanted to unload materials for the job. The fellow asked if I would mind supplies being stored overnight in the garage. I objected as that's where our cars live and I suggested the workshop. Okay I confess I love watching the expression on faces of those walking into my shop for the first time. These guys were wide eyed. One took note of the Power Pro. The other asked what the covered tools were. Both were shocked to see all of the free standing Shopsmith tools. One said to the other, "I think we are in the wrong place." Even if I am not allowed to use the shop just now, I grinned all day at their response. Jim
