High Speed Adjustment

Those who followed my post yesterday about the control sheaves know that I just recently had to perform a high speed adjustment. I moved the speed control to "Fast" and checked the belt. It was riding a little high in the motor sheaves as it was flush with the sheaves. So, I backed the speed control off until I had a 1/16th gap between the edge of the sheaves and the belt (dial was reading about "U" at this point). Then I loosened the lock nut on the set screw and firmed it up against the pork chop and retightened the lock nut.

Almost everything is now as it should be. The speed dial stops at "Fast" and at "Slow" as it should. At "Fast" the belt is 1/16th away from the rim of the lower sheaves, as it should be. The belt itself measure 0.520 inches, so it's within specifications (a little on the fat side, kinda like me).

Now for the almost: Before I had issues necessitating this high speed adjustment, the detent on the post that accepts the allen screw for the speed control handle would always orient itself at the 12 o'clock position when set to "Fast." This made it easy to get the handle on and off. Now, after the high speed adjustment, the little detent no longer orients at the 12 o'clock position when the speed is set to Fast. Instead, it orients at about 5 o'clock position. This made re-attaching the speed control handle a little more difficult because the headstock lock was interfering with the allen wrench but I did manage to get everything on and the speed control seems to operate properly.

Should the little detent always be in the 12 o'clock position? If so, what am I missing in my procedure?

A small tweak of the HS screw will create a large repositioning of the set screw(hole).:D:);)
