What is this? Mystery Accessory

I recently inherited a Shopsmith and in the collection of stuff that appeared to go with it was this set of pieces. They seem to be intended to go together and I believe it was intended for use on the Shopsmith partly because of the 5/8" bore in the black piece. This piece also has a set screw in it as does the silver piece with the 1/4" hole in it. I have asked Shopsmith customer service and one other chuck company if they know what it is and so far no one does. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. Never seen that item. But there are members with a lot more Shopsmith history than me. Wait for them to chime in...

Perhaps it's a screw chuck for use on the lathe. A number 14 wood screw fits nicely in a 1/4" hole and the set screw in the silver piece would hold it in place after screwing it into the wood.

Looks like pieces to a Sorby chuck for the shopsmith. You'll see them pop up on eBay sometimes.

It is a Sorby Chuck. After reading Reddog's response I did a little research and it is a Sorby Handy Collett Chuck. However, I seem to be missing several of the inner "jaws" that apparently came with it. I'm guessing that the one center piece that is there is intended to allow for using something like a 1/4" pen mandrel. I really don't have the need for this unit so it will probably end up on ebay as is. Thank-you for the assistance.
