Need help selling 2011 Mark 7- Any ideas?

Post by hparryok »

Hey everyone.
I need helping selling my 2011 Mark 7. I am moving internationally and just cant bring my Shopsmith with me. Would appreciate any ideas from anyone who has sold a fully loaded machine before, does craigslist work, ebay, something else? Whoever ends up buying this will be getting a screaming deal as its basically brand new.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe! Not sure you will have the time necessary on CL. Either are a crap shoot. Location, location, location, buyer location . . . Speaking of which, where are you?

Are you relocating permanently? If not long term storage may be cheaper than the hit selling it(if it does sell) will be.

Do realize this is not the place to sell it. You have done all that is reasonably tolerated by our forum sponsor. If any member is interested they will PM you. Knowing yer 20 would help!

The sponsor does not want a 'trading post' here. It is quite tolerant of boundary pushing. I merely wanted a new member 'to know' there was one.;)

I don't think it's pushing the boundaries to state the details of what you have and request advice on what folks think it is likely to fetch on CL or other potential selling avenues - it would stretch the boundaries to ask folks openly for interest in buying it, however.

Sadly, it's a buyers market in a huge kinda way with used SS, so be prepared to to either find virtually no interest if you post it for sale somewhere with a price that you likely feel it's worth based on its age and what you paid for it, or else be prepared for a bit of shock r.e. the low offers you will receive if you open it up to all offers.

As for where to sell - assuming you can't bring it with you and you can't save it for a later return, which it sounds like you can't, CL or E-Bay are your only real options, other than word of mouth to friends, coworkers etc. E-Bay doesn't seem to be a very good venue for selling entire machines unless you are willing to crate and ship it to someone. CL is the more likely place for folks around your greater area but as noted, be prepared for very low offers, if any.

Other options, depending on how the expenses pan out and/or what your timeframe is for finding it a new home - possibility donating it to a suitable and interested non-profit for a tax donation. Otherwise, perhaps a family member or someone similar as a gift to spurn a new hobby or passion - ultimately this may be more satisfying than eating your shorts on some lowball offer if this is something you need to deal with quickly.

Anyway, if you post the details of what you have, folks can weigh in on what they think it may fetch on CL etc. based on their given regional experience.

I suggest listing in Craigs list. I also reside in Colorado and sometimes see Shopsmith's listed. Newer units like yours show up very seldom yet generally do not bring the higher prices one would like. I am sorry to report I do not personally know of current buyers here who are looking. Good luck on finding a buyer. I wish I could help. Jim

Craigslist is probably your best bet, but sometime Ebay works too. A 2011, is it before the PowerPro? If so, I would expect you will find the price you paid and the price you get to be very different. I you don't have a PowerPro headstock, most people are probably going to factor that in what they'll pay.

It is a Mark 7 so it should be a 'power pro' double tilt 520.
