Bearings review

I'm re-doing a headstock with a 1 1/8hp Emerson motor & did a search here on the bearing sizes & I remembered that the Emerson motor has 2 different size bearings; 17x40x12 and 5/8"x40x12.
Then I thought I remembered seeing a comment that not all Emersons had 2 sizes. I was hoping to order stuff before I tear it apart & leave it taking up bench space, so I'm wondering:
1) have I got the sizes right, and
2)if there are some with only one size, which is it, so I can get an extra one of them.
Also, while I'm at it, I checked for the correct 2 bearing quill bearings and one thread mentioned 6002zz (15x32x9) and 6003zz (17x35x10). Does that mean a 2 bearing quill has 2 different sized bearings on it, or that there are two different 2 bearing quill designs. The bearings on the unit in question are separated by a couple of inches. Thanks.

I am not aware of the Emerson 1 1/8hp motor having other than the two bearings mentioned. The smaller power station Emerson motor uses bushings.
The 5/8" bearing is the 'odd' one. So doubling up on the 17mm one is reasonable(and that one is most likely to need replacing first anyway).
VXB ships bearings very quickly so only a couple of days would be spent waiting. IIWM, I would determine the quill bearing sizes(ya kin put er back together while ya wait) before ordering. AIUI there have been at least three versions of the two bearing quill re bearing sizes.
BTW only the Emerson 1 1/8hp motor has the 5/8" bearing at the dead end. All other SS motors(including the 3/4hp ones) use the 17 mm bearing at both ends.

As I look at this bearing on the motor shaft, it appears to actually be mounted on a sleeve that rides on the motor shaft. (arrow) Is that what I'm seeing? Or is there just a slot in the shaft?

Also, at the back of the bearing is a retaining ring (arrow) is there any reason to remove this?

It's a challenge getting the bearing off because my bearing puller is not long enough to reach down the long shaft. I've tried an open ended wrench behind the bearing & rapping on it. Any other ideas?

Clues to puller 'shortness' reside
here!
Do realize that is a mark VII motor shown.
The 'collar' looks like the fan sheave spacer. It should just pull off.
The retaining ring can 'get in the way' of removing the bearing. If you leave it on, make sure the puller 'misses' it.

Here's a pic of the motor label. Non reversable. It came out of a MK5 that appeared to un-opened prior to me getting into it. Any other thoughts?

Slip the armature into a sturdy 'fork' and apply force to the end of the shaft.
If impact force, protect the shaft end.
Provide soft 'landing' area!:D

Once I pulled off the sleeve (shieve spacer), I was able to use the open end wrench to tap the bearing off. I had a spare, one of the same ones I keep to put in the 3/4hp GE motors. All back together & runs great. You learn a little more with each project. If you do enough projects, you begin to think you know it all.

As I have gotten older, I have learned that the more you learn, the more you understand that there is much much more to learn.

Someday I hope to know as much as my kids...actually I just hope to hear them admit that I know as much as they do....then there's the grandkids who know even more.
