510 rip fence adjsutment

I have just bought a Mark 5 with the 510 rip fence upgrade. My problem is how to set up/adjust the fence. There are two clamps at the end one for the front and the other the back adjustment. I cannot find any help on the site so am asking how are these adjusted. Also, it occurs to me how is the fence set up to be parallel to the table?

It is rare to have a 510 rip fence that needs adjustment. The two handles MIGHT need to be adjusted although I would doubt it. Put the fence on the table and lock the handles down but do not force the handles. They should seat down with moderate thumb pressure. The upper handle is for the rear lock and if it is too tight it can be adjusted by turning a locking nut at the rear(output) end of the fence. When you can lock both of the handles, put the fence at one of the miter gauge slots and lock it in place. The face of the fence should be exactly parallel to the edge of the slot in the table. If it is then no adjustment is necessary. If it is not, then come back for more information.

The previous owner paid little attention to serviceability.Two handles were so tight I had to loosen them using a rubber mallet. I suspected the adjustment is as you suggested I just wondered how tight they should be. I'll proceed with the parallel adjustment as you suggested. Thanks for the help and keep up the good work.

I misread your post. I had a 520 rip fence in mind. Sorry.
The 510 fence can be checked in the same manner by tightening it to the table in the same manner and see if it runs parallel to the table slot. If it does then it is OK. If not there is a discussion by Dusty in another thread.
P.S. On the 510 you tighten the wing nut first. This pulls the fence into alignment with the front rail, then tighten the lever. If the fence aligns with the miter gauge slot then all is good.

There are two versions of the 510 rip fence. The 'other' version has different screws to 'loosen' for alignment. I be out of 'state' so a more accurate description will have to wait for my 'return'. IIRC, the smaller but 4 screw pattern was used.

You may be thinking of the bandsaw fence...... Every 510 fence I have seen has the two screws that attach the fence to the base.

Perhaps! But I am sure I have two versions of a 510 fence. I believe the base mounting screws were one of the differences. Will post pix upon my return this weekend either way.
