Speed control mounting screw stripped

Hello everyone! I've very recently acquired a late 70's Mark V that was inherited by a guy who had no interest in it at all. When I went to check it out, it was blowing the guy's breakers on start-up so, I got it for nothing. Smart move #1 (he was ready to heave it in the dumpster). I signed up to this forum (smart move #2). I watched all the videos and read a lot of posts and decided today to strip the headstock down and clean it, loosen up the stuck sheaves, wax, silicone all the recommended parts, and replace the drive belt. Upon reassembly I discovered the Speed control screw on the right (the one that holds the dial spring in place was not tightening up because the casting is stripped. What's the recommended fix for that? A slightly bigger screw after drilling and tapping a bigger hole or perhaps a larger self tapping screw?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had that same problem and I fixed it by simply using a nut. It's a little tricky to get it started but it's a simple and cheap fix.

Same screw hole. I dabbed a little JB Weld on the nut and installed the nut and tighten the screw on a headstock I rebuilt today. I hope the JB Weld will hold the nut if the screw is removed some day.

I use a kep nut and epoxy. Works on "A" headstock motor pan tapped holes also. Keep epoxy off the screw! Adhesion to casting can be troublesome.
