I KNOW I have seen a plan for a wooden cradle for the Shopsmith headstock but I cannot find it anywhere. Somebody please point me to it? I have a PowerPro on the way and want a secure storage cradle for my old unit.

I'm sure someone will post it soon. In the meantime, have you thought about getting another base to make your extra headstock into a power station / mini ?

I don't know of a plan, however as I remember there is one in use during one of the later "Sawdust Sessions". It is a simple box with the ends scooped out at the same curve as the motor pan of the headstock. To make one you can bremove your motor pan and use it as a template.

Since your motor is fastened to the pan, you'll probably not want to do this. It would be awkward and heavy.

A solid box with modified V shaped ends would do the job very well.

Yes I did and that may be what ultimately happens if I EVER get some more room....

this is what I will do. I called SS customer service and there is no plan for the cradle, but they sent me a picture of one they use. Guess I remembered seeing it when viewing a Sawdust Session or something...thanks for coming back to me...

Would you please post the photo? I have an additional headstock I would like to safely store.

That would be a great project if my headstock wasn't apart, I could one right now too.

You must be careful thinking this... Several years ago an internet friend (in Ohio) from an antique tractor group that knew I loved my ShopSmith decided to treat himself to a brand new complete headstock when his stopped. He kindly offered to give me his old one if I came after it. My wife and I made arrangements to go get it and in the process contacted another Ohio friend about a visit too. We all met at a restaurant in the friends town and then we all had a very nice visit while loading the headstock (and some other items he gave me). All in all a great day.
How is that dangerous? Because as I got to thinking of ways to use that extra headstock a monster was born... 25 additional Shopsmiths later, acquired from all around east of the Mississippi (OK, One from the east edge of Missouri ) I have my own used parts warehouse.
