I'm a new owner of a 510. The guy I purchased it from took the upper saw guide apart when I was not looking. I can't figure out how it goes together. I think it expands out. The one side has a shoulder that matches the larger hole. When I expand out I run out of threads before it is full width. There was also a screw but it seems long and if the head is on the outside of the black metal part the clear plastic guard would hit on it.

The image of your upper saw guard appears to show a knurled nut where I believe should be a simple spacer.

I've taken some photos of my saw guard but upon closer examination I believe mine may be of different vintage. The threaded inserts are what makes me think so.

Thanks, looks like you have that hex piece and I have this knurled part. I'm guessing the knurled part goes to something else and during the move I lost the hex piece.

The knurled part looks like one of the knurled nuts (lock knobs, part 206 in Dusty's part listing) that are used on the lower saw guard to set the width of the guard opening.
