I took my Shopsmith Mark V (1983) apart to change the sheave and bearing. When I got it, it was almost seized up completely. My problem is, when I put it back together, how do I synchronize the speed controller with the speed of the headstock?
I haven't got my sheave yet and ,at my age, I forgot if it was on slow or high. Is there a rule of thumb to putting it back together? I took the speed controller apart and have it all cleaned and ready to put back together as soon as I get the part.

Fear not, a rather simple procedure. There is a link in the "sticky" on this forum that tells you how to do it. I believe it's referred to the high speed adjustment. I'm sure someone will post the link...

Regardless of whether a 'high speed adjustment' is made, the speed control is adjusted to the high speed stop just before attaching the ring(set to fast) and control knob.

The control needs to be set to fast to install the motor belt(next).

The high speed adjustment can be done at any time. IIWM, I would not do that until it is completely reassembled.
