Blade Guard

Post by drdale »

I have a MV11. It did not come with any blade guard or safety parts to prevent kick-back. I have had some close calls with kick-backs. Does anyone know whether any of these kind of parts supplied by Shopsmith will fit on my old machine?

If you are referring to a Mark II, I believe Model 5 (500, 505,510,520) blade guard or riving knife parts will not fit, though you might be able to adapt one. Here is a pic from a March 1958 Popular Mechanics of a Mark 2 with a blade guard (so they did exist):

By the pic, it looks to have only the upper guard.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders, molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

Oh, a Mark VII.......I think unfortunately that the answer is the same, nothing fits so you will have to adapt guards from another model, but others on the forum who own a VII may have a happier answer for you.
