Thanks for the replies to my other thread about getting the tie bar off.

Still no success there, but I thought (mistake) there is more than one way to skin a cat; I'll just remove the way tubes from the other (hinge) end, and slide the headstock off that way.

Well, what is holding that end together? I can find no set screws to loosen. Just a pressed fit? How does one remove the hinge end casting from the base? There appears to be an esna rollpin holding the hinge pin in place with no hope of extracting it.

I've seen tubes for sale on the 'net, so I know they come apart; question is, how?

The way tubes (#20) are held to the base arm (#24) with set screws on the top (#27). I don't recall if there's putty covering those set screws that might have to be dug out. Loosen those set screws and the way tubes should come out.

The bench tubes (#19) are held to the base (#1) with a bar (#3) that spans them and is bolted (#4 & #5) into the base. Remove those two bolts, and the bench tubes should be free.

The base arm (#24) is held to the base (#1) with the base arm pin (#29). That diagram above might show newer models because on older models there is a roll pin holding it in place. Maybe someone else can provide a picture? Anyway, that roll pin can indeed be pushed out with a pin punch. You might have to do it from the bottom, I can't recall.

Correction: The set screws holding the arm to the way tubes are probably on the bottom, behind the hinge pin. It's been a while since I took mine apart, so don't exactly remember and was going by this diagram. I don't think that diagram is right for older units.

The tension pin that captures the hinge 'pin' is driven IN to release the hinge pin. There is a hole on the INSIDE that lets the tension pin 'escape'.

Thanks for that tip i decided to take that apart today after I read it...
