Dust Collecting for planer

I made my own dust collecting system that works gr8. I'll try to get pics later and post, but right now I'm looking for the connection to the planer. I looked on the planer parts list and the dust collection list to no avail. Do they make a fitting that goes on the planer? I hate to jury-rig something, because it might fall into the blades. A 2" fitting is a hair too small and 3" is a way too big. Please let me know if there is something I can do. Thanks all.

Assuming that you have a Shopsmith planer, then this is probably what you are looking for. It does not come standard with the planer.

That sheet-metal piece that clips to the plastic chute is a relatively new addition, and I ordered one for my older planer. It greatly improves the chip-collection efficiency. But on my planer, it also rubbed against the outfeed roller. So I ground about 1/16" off of the edge that was rubbing -- end of problem.

Thanks Buckeye, That's exactly what I'm looking for. Sorry, I forgot to mention that it was a SS planer. I looked on the parts but couldn't find it. Thanks again, and I'll get it ordered.

I wonder if SS would sell us just the "sheet metal piece"? I have the other parts.

Indeed they will, although it saves you only about ten bucks. Same item that I bought for my planer. Comes with the mounting clips.

Check the fit for rubbing on your outfeed roller before attaching the sheet metal with the clips, though. They are a pain to pry back off if you need to trim the sheet metal.

Is there any way that you could post a pic of yours hooked up so I can see how it looks and where all the pieces go. Last time I got a part from SS it didn't have any instructions, and I was on here trying to get info to install it. Thanks, Your pain in the A$$ woodworking friend, Kaynyne

I purchased the metal part in January and installed it. Boy did it improve dust pick-up. Well worth the money.

Thanks for the pics Mike. I thought the SS name plate came off and it got connected there. I guess I was wrong. lol. So I have to pic up the cover and put the dust collector in that spot. Thanks again for the pics.
