I have 'files' and had sandpaper like pads(fit into a holder) made by Skill a loooong time ago. Not sure what the grit consisted of, but used 'gently' they still work wood.
Have not seen this recently.

Years ago I bought metal backed sand paper with carbide grit (80)from a clearance bin real cheap. I didn't have the proper handled for it so I glued it to a block of plywood. I still have it after more than 20 years of occasional use. For hand sanding it worked well. It has never clogged or worn out. Every time I take it out I wonder if they still make this stuff. I might need to try some of the DuraGrit discs. I like the sanding block with magnets for changing grit.

I worked with tile, marble and granite for 20+ years. Tile is very soft except for its top "glazed" surface, which is less then a 64th" closer to 128th". unless it is porcelain tile which is hard through its core, but not as hard as its top glaze. Those 4x4" wall tiles are soft as all heck, thats why when cheap contractors put them on bathroom floors in the 60s, the glaze wore off of them and they cracked easily if not a super good base under them.
Measure once, cut as many times as needed to get it right! Bob
