How many shopsmiths have you had?

I just purchased shopsmith #10 and my son said I was just as bad as an alcoholic. Seven of those where Mark V and I kept one as a shorty and a 520. The ER10s are so labor intensive to restore that I keep these around as a wall mounted drill press, a vertical mill and one waiting for restoration.

A the end of the day I have 610.00 invested in all I have kept and 6 SPTs with the Band saw and planer on stands, the speed reducer, grinder attachment, flexible shaft attachment, DC, conical sander, planer sharpener jig, chisel jig, SS out feed table and probably a dozen other smaller items.

I found a pricing anomaly in my area where the cost of a shop smith is not that much lower than a shopsmith with several attachments. This allowed me to keep what I wanted while selling off what I didn’t (often in a few sales)

What about you guys, have you done a similar approach?

Started out with a Shopsmith Crafter's Station. After much consternation because the reverse didn't work, I sold it back to Shopsmith 1 year later and received full purchase credit for all parts toward the purchase of a 510. Kept the main table from the CS and the miter gauge.

So one could say I have owned two Shopsmiths, but only one Mark V.

You've beat me on price, but maybe I win on waranty.

I also realized that buying a SPT was somehow the same price of a whole used SS with many accessories. Then the problem started : )) because I have 5 and many repeated accessories but I have no heart (or time) to sell any.

I keep postponing all for the time I retire... I see so many good offers (and some crazy ones) in Craigslist but I have no space anymore.

I feel your pain! but have been able to control my hoarding to E/ER10s.

Well, sort of. My end goal is to have every accessory at a cost of $0.00. I am closing in on that! If not for the e/ER10s my total out of pockect cost would be under 200.00

Only one but it is still running just fine with 34 years of constant use. With TLC it will probably keep running for the rest of my life.

Mark 5 Goldie constantly(and still) used for a half century(my 'original).
Mark V 510 (still partially refurbed)
10E laying all over the place.
Mini from scavenged parts almost done/accessable.
Mark 2 pieces with Greenie headstock used as a 'portable'.
Mark VII currently about half way to restoration.
Power stations(2).
SPT's I ain't gonna go there. Too many duplicates awaiting 'servicing'. At least one each operational.


Yep I got it bad! Seems constant interruptions of new bargains occur.

Since you are an old hand, what do you think of the PowerPro Mark 7?

I think it is a great machine. It actually cuts 8/4 hard maple and 8/4 purple heart with no to almost no burn. My PowerMatic PM2000 could never seem to accomplish that. The low speed is great as a drill press and I have a bandsaw I use strictly for metal cutting running the PowerPro at 250 rpm. Very versatile machine.

No regrets.
