shopsmith 5 noise when I turn to hight speed

hello every one my Name is Blaine
I came across an old shopsmith V on crigslist last week for 200 bucks so I went and picked the thing up and yesterday and set it all up and turned her on and noticed a little noise coming from the motor when I get to the higher speeds.
it almost sounds like screw in a blinder .lol
I have never had one of these things before but I always wanted one .
I will try and figure out how to do pics of my new old toy in a bit
thanks for any ideas and thoughts you may have on my noisy shopsmith

Hi Blaine and welcome to the forum
The noise that you hear may be that the high speed adjustment is not correct. It is a simple adjustment and can be found in the Shopsmith archives as well as a lot of other good info for new owners. It looks like that you may have a lot of cleanup to do so please take the time to check the machine out carefully as a safety precaution. Any questions, come back here and I am sure they will be answered.

PS Be sure to thoroughly clean, inspect and lubricate according to the owner's manual. Many knowledgeable folks that will help you out.

You got a lot for $200!
You got a lot of work ahead of you to get things operating correctly.
If you have not already done so, read the sticky posts at the top of this thread.
At a minimum, oil the movable sheaves.
The headstock is noisy, but clanking.rattling may be an indication of something not totally correct. Any thing above saw-joint gets very noisy.
Fear not it is totally restorable to like new performance.

I can't wait to get started tomorrow on oiling and waxing the old machine back to life

I just oiled the belt pulley sliders and the noise is still there
after running it with the cover off it sounds like the noise may be coming from the bottom pulley spring cover
here is some pics
this one is with it running and you can see the spring moving
I am not wild about somebody's rewiring job
I am uploading a you-tube of it running now and will post it in a bit so you guys can hear the noise
