Xerox Copier

Post by berry »

On this day in 1938 Chester Carlson made the first Xerox copy in Queens NYC.

Unfortunately there hasn't been a day since that someone hasn't had a paper jam in one.

On the other hand I remember cutting stencils and using a mimeograph machine and getting that ink all over me. I guess I vote for clearing the jams.

Remember the lemony scent of the old mimieograph machines? I always liked the smell of the paper as it came out of the printing tray.

Ryan, mimeo or spirit duplicator? I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and guess spirit duplicator. (Ditto machine.)

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

What every it was, that smell in school always meant a test was on the agenda.

They stopped using those machines when I was in 3rd grade, but I still remember the smell of a fresh "dittoed" handout.

I remember the smell of both of them. Ditto machines smell of
ethanol and methanol, mimeo machines smell (vaguely) of grease.

Wasn't until I was working for A.B. Dick, that I was able to
really tell the difference. Along with wet (remember them?)
dry and "plain paper" photocopiers, I repaired both duplicators.
