DC adapter for Magna belt sander??

I was fortunate enough to pick up a Magna belt sander, however it has the 1 1/2" dust collection outlet. I understand that there is an update which removes the lower portion and the replacement has a larger outlet. Also there are stepped adapters but being cheap, I was wondering if anyone had made a "doughnut" which fits over the end of the 1 1/2" outlet with an outside diameter at 2 1/2" to fit the DC3300 hose? I was thinking of taking a scrap piece of 1 by, cutting out a circle a bit more than 2 1/2". cutting it in half, temporarily taping it together, drilling a 1 1/2" hole in the center, then placing it over the outlet, gluing the halves together.

I believe that this will work BUT not very well. The hose will fit just fine and at first you will be very pleased. Then you start using it and will find that the adapter becomes a blockage point in the collection line. Sorry for the negative response but that is what I think.

Actually if you are going from big to small the blockage would be a problem, but since the OP is asking about an adapter that would go from the small hole to a large hose, the adapter should work fine. I would turn one on the lathe with a scrap of 2X4 if you want something cheap. Turn the disk to the right side and then drill out the center plug.

You are absolutely correct. My cognitive reasoning fails me frequently these days. I hope this is the result of a 'lack of attention to detail' and nothing else.

Thank you both for your replies and information.

My initial thought "was" to turn a piece of 2 by then drill the center, however, the casting has a lip and there is about 1/2" of space between the lip and the main body.

You can see it above the "G" in MAGNA.

The lip negates any shot at just slipping a piece on, hence cutting it in halp before gluing it (silicone) in place.

My biggest worry is that the 1/2" of surface area will not be enough to hold the hose end in place, even if I make it a very snug fit. I may make a few rings and once the initial piece has been attached, then stack glue them to make a cylinder approximately 3". I could even widen the center hole as I went?? Just need to account for that lip.

The blockage/ change in diameters WAS a huge concern but now that that has been addressed I think I'll give it a try.

I'll probably try it with MDF (lots of 1/2" scraps around), though that won't be for a few months now. Mother Nature has officially pronounced that winter has come to Montana! And since I still haven't been able to "reacquire" control of my shop until Spring, nothing gets built til the spring.

I look at it as more time to design jigs and things!!! (at least on paper)
