Wine Stoppers-best drive center mount?

Post by c2h6o »

Have been turning wine stoppers for about 8 months on my SS PP upgrade. I have been using 5/16 hangar bolt in a Jacobs chuck for the drive center mount. I see there a number of options, including mandrels and bottle stopper chucks.

My questions are the best ways to mount the block on the drive center for turning wine stoppers?

Have you tried this site?

http://nilesbottlestoppers.com/index.html

Ruth has food grade SS bottle stoppers as well as a mandrel that she developed for the Shopsmith.
She is a very good person and is well known in the turning fraternity. The SS mandrel is part #SS157.
I recently bought her off center jig and am having fun trying a new form of turning.

I received this mandrel in just a couple of days. Looks to be of very good quality. Looking forward to turning some stoppers.

I drill and tap the blank then put it on a Mandrel from PSI which is mounted on my drill chuck. I use a live center tailstock until im done finishing most of the stopper. Cut off the rest and finish the end.

I have been using the wine stopper screw chuck from Niles or about a month now. As reported by others really a very good option for wine stoppers. Attached are a few of the stoppers I have been making. Thanks for the suggestions.
