Natural Edge Bowl projects

I joined the local wood turning club and this is what they demoed this month. I sharpened my tools on the strip sander and it works better than the system I was using. I'll stick with it. Sharp tools make it fun!

The bowls look terrific!

I have used the strip sander (with the sharpening guide) on the standard Shopsmith lathe chisels (skew, roughing gouge, parting tool & spindle gouge) and really like it.

But I also have this beautiful Sorby bowl gouge with a finger nail grind and I am trying to figure out how/if to use the strip sander to sharpen it. Have you figured out how to sharpen a bowl gouge with a finger nail grind on the strip sander?

Also, I got one of these nifty tools and I didn't think it was a problem to sharpen it on the strip sander. Yes, I've done it. If I remember correctly it was just a matter of adjusting the Shopsmith chisel sharpening jig (bar & handle holder).

The cutting edge of the tool was near the top of the platen. I remember using a light pressure.

When turning these bowls, especially the winged bowl, it called for being up against the tailstock live center most of the time. That made it very hard to get the tool rest around the stock and in position. So the bottom of the bowl is in a scroll chuck attached to the headstock, the quill is extended and the inside of the bowl is against the live center. Very tight for the tool rest arm and rest. Is there a solution that gets that live center out further from the tailstock?

SS has a live tailstock 'extender' that is included with the lathe duplicator.

There are also MT2 to MT2 extensions( male on one end, female on the other).

Yes, they make #2 morse taper extensions. Here is a link to Graingers offerings. However, I am sure you can find them cheaper somewhere else.

There are a few possible solutions.
You could use a Morse Taper Extension Socket
If you have a Oneway or a Nova live center you could make what Cap'n Eddie calls a soft touch.

For the Nova live center you could use the screw adapter or a 5/16 - 18 tap and a cut off bolt or bit of all thread.

Natural Edges Coaster Caddy w/Coasters. Bradford Pear (Blew down in the backyard a couple of years ago) Slot on the backside so the coasters can be pulled out.
Tried to post pictures but the preview doesn't seem to show them, I guess I'm not smart enough to figure it out.
