upper control sheave

upper control sheave
hey guys, im new to a shopsmith! i recently purchased a mark 5 used.. the upper control sheave wont seem to adjust.. its almost like the speed control is bent or something. any suggestions?

actually i think its called the floating sheave.. when i turn on the shop-smith and i try to adjust the speed the speed control arm hits the "leaves" on the sheave and completly stops the motor.. i cant seem to find any info on how to fix this problem

sorry... i just figgerd it out, the bearing is missing. so ill probably buy another control sheave assembly

Welcome! I too am new to Shopsmith and have had to deal with a few "issues" early in my ownership. I'm not sure about you, but I really enjoy the discover in maintaining and repairing things myself. It sounds like you're having a similar journey. I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.

It is entirely possible that the arm that moves the control sheave is bent.
Search topics on speed control, porkchop, and you will find quite a number on what may be wrong.
I wrote a segment about that very issue in a PDF within a post http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maint ... 16113.html
The PDF I attached has a section on what causes it, and the photos I included link back to a number of posts from forum members other posts by very knowledgeable members such as MickeyD and JPG, each of whom have volumes they share on the subject.
One quick thing you may find is if you use Google, you can sometimes find things in Shopsmith Forums better than in the Forum Search.
An Example you would enter the phrase in Google
Pork Chop Damaged site:shopsmith.com
It will return a number of relative posts, all within the Shopsmith forums where members discuss these sorts of problems, how to repair, and mitigate them.
