New Member/Magna Bandsaw Question

Post by greasemonkey2275 »

Hello all,

I am the third owner of a 1958 Shopsmith 500 Mark V and am almost done restoring it. When I bought it let's just say it barely ran and as a vehicle mechanic I had to make it run again. Four bearings, both belts, a new power switch and cord, and lots of TLC and elbow grease later I am almost ready to put it back in service. As soon as I get my rebuilt control sheave I can put the headstock back together and I'll see what she can do. While I was perusing Craigslist I came across a 1956 Magna Bandsaw but unfortunately the sweet elderly lady I bought it from did not have the owner's manual. Does anyone have one in PDF for this year machine or do I have to use the newer manuals that are on S/S's website? I am also trying to figure out how to get a new plastic cover for it; I'd really like it to say Magna on it (just to keep it original). Any ideas on where I might find one of these rare gems?

A half century too young, but relevant none the less. Other than the table, mounting posts, and rear guide bearing, little has changed.

Oh and the cover lock knobs. Ignoring the window etc.

Watch e-bay for the cover. May not bear fruit. IIWM I would get the first in range regardless of the 'artwork'. Then if. . .
