Yesterday at the Barber shop

Post by Gene Howe »

Usually, I drive myself to get a hair cut. It's about 35 miles since our in town barber retired. But Friday, the wife says she'll drive me because she need to do "a little" shopping.
She drops me at the shop and off she goes. After an hour or so, she's back. I climb in and see no shopping bags. I ask where's all the stuff you bought?
She says "Well.......we gotta go pick it up."
I'm thinking more yard ornaments or flowers. But she heads in the wrong direction.
Soon she pulls in to the Motorsports Dealer. Geeeze...what did she buy?
She had been dickering with them for the last week on a new Polaris Ranger 570 EPS.
I was just gobsmacked. I mean, she almost killed me when I spent $350 for that stupid Delta Mortiser. Now, she drops a WAD on a TOY.
It is nice, though. We have an '07 and this new one is a whole new ball of wax. Power steering, auto glass windshield, canopy roof, scads of power, a speedometer!!! an on road pkg, and did I mention the power?

Take a gander.

Not so much, Forrest. They get as much snow as you do.

Snowflake was named after Erastus Snow, a Mormon General
authority, and William J Flake, living in the area.

My uncle, Jake Flake, was one of his decendents, as is Senator
Jeff Flake, another nephew.

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Well Steve, having lived in Huntington Beach, I can almost guarantee that Snowflake gets more snow, although not enough to justify a Polaris.
This is our second one. The original was bought in '97 and is used for all sorts of jobs around the ranch, which we call "Oleo" because its a cheap spread.
Phyllis says her new one is a Sunday-Go-To-Meeting vehicle.

I want one but I must justify it to myself and wife, what do you use it for? How much land do you have? On the road how fast is it? I fear with only an acre of land I have no real justification.
BUT I WANT ONE!

We have 26 acres and use the old one to pull a 52" mower. There are areas we need to drag to level and then there is the constant maintenance of our 1/4 mile driveway. We have a 3 point hitch, a box blade and a 6 tine tiller that we use often.
By far, the most use it gets is driving the hundreds of miles of trails around here. We've trailered the old one all over the US, and parts of northern Mexico. It's been a blast. There are places in both countries we'd never have been able to experience without the Polaris.
On the road, ours will top out at 45+ mph. And, that's fast enough for me. There are other models that will go much faster but, we rarely ever get on roads where the speed limit is over 45 anyway.

Yeah, we originally bought 80 acres. We subdivided that into three mini ranches of 26.6 each. Sold the other two and ended up with ours free and clear. Like I said. "A cheap spread."
