Mark V Model 500 to 520 Upgrade

Post by dbeatty1954 »

Just got around to doing the Mark V 500 to 520 upgrade on the machine I got from my brother after he passed, and I have a question. I am unable to lock the carriage from moving on the way tubes. Does anybody have any idea what I did wrong. Sat there for the longest time looking at it, taking it off and putting it back on. No luck. Even looked at the old carriage with no luck. Thanks for any info.

Have you tried tightening the nut on the backside of the carriage, opposite the lock handle?

Part 177 here:

I am only able to run it down so far before it stops. There is plenty of thread left, but did not want to strip the bolt. Should I go ahead and run it down further? Thanks Jr.

Adjusting the Carriage Lock is shown on page 6 here:

I'll defer to others that are more knowledgeable about whether or not to keep tightening, or maybe check first to see that the wedge locks are positioned correctly.

Thank you Mike, that makes sense. Next chance I get I will give it a try.
