Been lurking for a while and have had my shopsmith since approx 1984. did an update to 510 in early 90's and have quite a few accessories for it. I don't do as much wood working as I would like but hope I will have the time later to do more. my background was in automotive with time in auto machine shop ( 3 years) and auto trans rebuilding (35 years). my time in the last few years is running and repairing heavy equipment and just started construction on a new house. the shopsmith will be getting a workout as the house starts to come together and was used in the old house to make cabinets and other stuff. I don't post often on forums I am on ( old norton MC's) but i like good quality INFO and not a keyboard commando.

Bill, while I'm on my once a week trip to the forum, let me welcome you here and I'm sure I speak for all the others also. Like yourself, I rarely post on forums and use them mostly for information and problem solving. Like myself, if it's imformation and personal experiences in wood working and the SS itself, you will find it here in abundance and the search window for the most part works very well. The forum itself like most other interest can easily become addictive and can become a hobby itself therefore my visits here are very infrequent.

Thank goodness not everyone feels that way. I'm glad many are willing to share their knowledge and experience. But you're right that it can become addictive.

First Welcome Bill! Second, I am a member of many forums on many different subjects, from automotive to this woodworking site. I was in the computer iindustry for over 35 years, a moderator for a couple of very large forums, and also was a professional mechanic/truck driver/heavy equipment operator in my 20's including Automatic transmission rebuilding .

I have found that yes, you can learn a lot from lurking, but you will get far more out of your time by participation. I really have no knowledge/expertise to share here as I am a total noob, but post regular, often, make some friends and you will enjoy your time spent much more .... even if, like me, you don't know squat .....
