Whats your perfect afternoon?

Post by moggymatt »

I just glued up some stuff to set aside till after supper. I come out of the shop and see a whitetail buck following a doe up the hill( 45 yards or so) so I get the binoculars to glass them and sit down on the deck. He's a pretty, medium sized 3x3. While I'm watching him, there's does back behind me about a hundred yards huffing, turkeys flying in the trees making a racket and the smell of my wife's meatloaf coming out of the kitchen window. Somebody better check my pulse, I might just have died and gone to heaven for a half hour :) :D !

This is the best time of the year, from late August till it turns to boob in November, except for the evenings are too short. Neighbor has an apple tree in his front yard across the street, 4ish pm the deer show up to eat apples, then about 430ish the turkeys come through my front yard, 9 of them, one hen with 3 jakes and another hen with 4. And now I have a new 4 month old pup, Black Mouth Cur, that goes nuts as we sit on the front veranda watching them.

Gotta love it. I'm used to having deer snort at me when I walk up too close to them. But this year, I have a doe that walks up close to me, fawn in tow, and then snorts at me to back off! I've tried reasoning with her, to no avail. So I just ignore her. And then the fawn comes up even closer to check me out.

Now the bad boy on the photos below, I wouldn't be ignoring, especially up close. My wife snapped those photos from our back porch a couple years ago. Check out his forehead!

I wish you guys with deer and turkey in your yards would just shut up! :D
Oh how I miss Autumn in Pa, deer and turkey were common place. Here in Florida we have both deer and turkeys but they are always hanging around the air conditioner drinking ice tea! Not a real pretty sight!

OK, my idea of a perfect weekend afternoon?

Cool, something below 80 degrees. Something cooking
on the UDS smoker in the back yard, a good game, like
the 49ers KICKING some tail, and all my NON-American
neighbors NOT playing their music loud enough to shake
the dishes in the dishwasher. (Sorry, did I get political
here? Won't EVER happen again.) :D

When it is hot here, they tend to crank up the car stereo,
go inside, and listen to the music. Personally, I do NOT
care what ANYONE listens to. Even nothing. Provided
I have the same right! (OOPS, got political again! THIS
time I mean it!) :D

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.
