Mark VII/MarkV/510 Frankensmith

I had been playing with the idea of mounting the 510 powerhead and table to the Mark VII base and I had been contemplating what to do with the base for storage when I found this unit on CL in Tacoma.

Wait til you see 'mine'.

The base will store rip fence, miter gauge, lathe tool rest, arbors/drill chuck, sanding disk(10") shaper fence and anything else I come up with. I have not(yet) figured out how to support the 'cover' when 'opened'. My goal is to NOT add any holes etc.

One of my thoughts was to use the drawer inserts like this unit. I think it will fit with minimal modification and I can use the original panel as a cover.

Here is a shot with the cabinet closed. Not sure what the wood pieces on either side are for.

Boy am I glad this thread was started! I have a mark VII and have been debating on what to do to the base cabinet now that it isn't for the dust bag. Looking forward to some great ideas.

I am thinking that a couple of sliding shelves/drawers that pull out woukld work pretty good.

I'm planning a few drawers. The bottom drawer will mount the metal panel so that when closed it appears stock. Then a drawer or two above.

The 'reveal' will be a while coming.

In the mean time: the bottom of the vac bag box will have a cavity between the two 'legs' that will hold the shaper fence and the lathe tool rest(disassembled to three parts). The cavity will have a cover so that the rip fence, the miter gauge and the tail stock can set on top.

Above that in the center opening is a pull out drawer(will use steel slides) that mount to 'boards' that attach to the front/rear flange and use the existing holes(4x). The drawer will be an egg crate with room for all the little things(arbors/chuck etc.

The original front panel will be held in place by 4 super magnets. The original screw knobs will be tight and serve as handles. I have not figgered out how/if to hinge it(may not, but just pull it off).

The back panel will be screwed on and a logo will cover the vac hose hole.

On each side of the drawer will be space for 10" sanding disks.

No saw blades - they are stored on the wall for use on any machine.

Holes in bottom are for the mounting screws on the shaper fence. They protrude from the bottom.

So far only the fence and tool rest will store in the 'bottom'.

Progress will continue to be slow on this.
