Windows 10 "update" kills sd drive???

Post by JPG »

Well Windows 10 update has got my dander up again.

It is bad enough that updates reset things to the Microsoft opinion of how things should be that require resetting them again to what I find preferable.

Well this time it went further. Now my sd card socket seems to be nothing other than a storage slot.(a place to store the cards, not use them)

Now I may be jumping to conclusions re the cause, but it worked before the update and does not after.

Any one else experiencing this? Any suggestions on how to 'correct'?

Ive read that win10 does not play nice with some card readers until their drivers are updated. Do you know what card reader you have? Realtek?

OK, I have W7 on my lap top, I had another issue so I took it to my dealer today for a fix. BTW, free lifetime service. They fixed it on the spot. I asked them how busy they have been. Swamped since the latest W10 upgrade. All kinds of problems including the blue screen of death. Nothing to do in most cases but reload windows, what a PITA. However, it seems to be random.

They don't have any idea what the problem is since W10 is not a real release and there is no real technical info to the repair technicians. Each issue is different. As the tech said W10 is a beta version and MS is using all of us as beta testers. That is why it is free. When has MS given any OS for free?

I came home and un-graded my wife's computer to W8.1. I will call my dealer in a few weeks and see if the problem is fixed and then upgrade to W10 again.

As I have stated here in the past, I am a better Wood Worker then computer jock, but my lap top has 10 on it and it drives me nuts compared to 7 on my PC.
Free nothing is free, rumor has it they intend to charge an annual fee for 10, not just a one time buy like in the past.

Son my upgraded to 10 computer if you are printing several copies of a document (or trying to) when you tell it to print more than on in the printer dialogue box, it ignores you and will only print one copy. Pain in the butt!

You likely need a different driver for the SD slot with Win 10. Go to your computer manufacturer's web page and search for a Win 10 driver for the SD slot. If it isn't there yet, check back in a few days. The hardware manufacturers are swamped right not trying to fix Microsoft's fubars. Just give them a little time.

And, most of all, remember that YOU chose Windows 10, so it is up to you to live with it. Just like you chose Windows 7 before it, and you lived with that one. If you can't live with Windows 10, choose something else.

So far, the idea of future fees seems to be just a rumor, and if you believe Microsoft, it is a false rumor. Microsoft says they will not charge a fee in the future.

I can't find actual statement from Microsoft on this matter, but other sources are saying that no fees are in the future.

But, you might want to be aware of recent changes Microsoft has made to the upgrade process. The last 3 paragraphs of this article are quite interesting.
