I have been lurking here for a while after buying what appears to be a 1955 "Greenie". Serial # 291792.
It appears to be in very good shape for the year, but not ready to use yet as it has some old age issues, such as bad power cord, one bearing in the motor is a bit dry, and a few other things typical of Mark V's of this vintage.
I am replacing all the bearings except the idler shaft bearing which is the "water pump" type and spins nice and smooth. I am waiting on one bearing for the sheave end of the Franklin electric motor, then all the bearings with the exception of the idler shaft will be new. The tiny bearing for the speed control is good too, so that will remain in place for now.
The belts appear to be fine, probably replaced at some time in the past. Gilmer clutch and drive shaft teeth are not worn either.
The way tubes are great and the bench tubes have some surface rust which I have removed to my liking.
I would post some pics, but right now it is totally dissasembled, some parts primed, and others waiting for paint.
I am very impressed with the overall condition of this machine, which is a tribute to the engineering and materials used to produce it. Something that is surely lacking in today's throwaway society.
I will post again with progress and some pictures.
